Lessons from within

Cartography for Life

High achievers are masters at making things happen.

We've likely been doing it our whole lives: A's, degrees, certifications, athletic goals, promotions.

We strive to be good at everything. And often we are.

But without love for what we're doing and without some way to care for ourselves while we're climbing the next mountain, the cost of this constant output can be steep.

Indeed, strivers have been striving so long, sometimes we don't even know if we still LIKE or WANT what we're striving for!

We grind away, performing but not necessarily FEELING the love any longer.

The shortness of life eventually becomes clear and our pace unsustainable.

Some of us then come to a screeching halt that we call burnout.

Or it may not be so dramatic. It might instead feel like a smoldering disaffection and disconnection to our work: a brown-out.

And then it's on to the next thing.

"What's next?"

This is the million dollar life coaching question.

Any map making worth it's salt must start with where we are now.

What are my values? What's my purpose? What do I really want? What makes me happy?

But before we can go, we have to stay.

You can't figure out what's next until you figure out what's here.

X marks the spot. THIS spot.

What’s here now?

  1. What part of your life and work do you like?

  2. What values are being honored in your everyday life?

  3. What do you want more of? Less of?

It's essential to take inventory of where you are, lest you throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Dispassionate inventory is key to cleaning the pantry of your heart.

Finding a rhythm of being and doing is the key to finding a path of fulfillment, peace and purpose.
