Lessons from within

I'm Not a Career Coach (but I am a leadership coach)

I am not going to tell you how to be a better doctor, banker, lawyer, cyber security CEO or thought leader in your industry.

I am not going to give you fancy career assessments.

I am not going to tell you how to get your next job.

I'm not going to advise you to retire or not retire.

That is for your mother, your spouse, or a paid consultant.

I AM going to help you become a better leader — within your career and in the rest of your life.

Effective, powerful coaching is not about advice giving or opinions.

Leadership coaching is about the whole person.

Coaching works to create more powerful, authentic leaders.

Coaching is about helping you be the author of your own life.

Here are a just a few examples of what can happen when you find your own truth:

  • A client says he’s never going to leave his job. A few months later, he sets a date to give notice.

  • A client says she wants to become a leader within her organization. Now she’s planning her 6 months off to recover, “detox from being a doctor” and explore her creativity.

  • A client says he wants to retire, until he realizes that he mostly loves his job and decides to cut back instead.

  • A CEO client wants to spend more time driving the car he loves and mountain biking. But he feels guilty. A few months into coaching, he’s owning his goal.

  • A client is looking for a new position and wants to position himself better in his interviews. He already notices more confidence.

Your career is the door into the rest of your life.

Once you’re empowered to take bold steps into your career, you may be ready for messier things, including:

  • relationships

  • loneliness

  • procrastination

  • over-eating and/or drinking

  • abandoning your health

  • abandoning yourself

Life does not happen in compartments.

You are much more than your job or any one title, after all.

Coaching invites you to step into your bigger self, your bigger life.

My favorite part of coaching are the surprises — when we wander away from the stated path to explore something else.

The tangents, the forgotten loves.

The discoveries you make about what really makes your heart sing are always breathtaking.

Sometimes you have to lose the path to find the true one.

Let’s get lost.
